“Am I desperate for wanting to talk to him?”

So I really like this guy and I’m really close with his family. Our parents have been friends for over 20 years and I’ve pretty much grown up with this kid. He’s in 8th grade and I’m in 9th, so we don’t go to the same school. I barely get to see him. He comes to my chorus concerts because he wants to, so I get to see him then.

He’s really sweet and always texts me after a performance saying I did a good job. We just got each other’s Snapchat’s and he started a streak with me, but whenever I snap back, he leaves me on open. He doesn’t have a snapchat score, so I assume he just leaves everyone on open. But, I still want to talk to him but I don’t want to sound desperate. Please help!

Then talk to him. Boys are people. Most would like it if you talked to them first. Here’s some conversation starters: If you were to pick one super power, what would it be? Do you like animals, which and why? What kind of sports are you into? What’s the last funny video you saw? If you had intro music, what song would it be? Why? What’s for dinner? Can you cook? If you opened a business, what kind of business would it be?

If he doesn’t answer in length to any of those, write him off and look for another boy. That means he’s uninterested.

Also, he may not be ready for a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship. In 8th grade, boys haven’t caught up to girls just yet and girls tend to be more mature or developmentally father along. Don’t take it to heart and move on.

I would say follow him on social media or maybe text him. Instead of trying to be his girlfriend talk to him as a friend. Give him something to laugh at. Make general conversation. Talk about school…things of that nature.

What do you think?
